Workshop: Oral Epics of Western Nepal and Related Traditions: Anthropological, Linguistic and Musical Perspectives

The workshop focused on sung narrative traditions of extreme western Nepal and nearby Uttarkhand in India. It brought together Nepali and Indian scholars from the region and international specialists, including the musicologist Mme Mireille Helffer, who, with the anthropologist Marc Gaborieau, carried out the first French research project on the folk literature of West Nepal in 1969.
The workshop concluded with public performances by three groups of bards invited from Far Western Nepal for the occasion.
