Note 84:

chaiṭi On the sixth night after birth (usually called the chaiṭhaũ), Bhābi, Goddess of Fortune, comes to write a child's fate on its forehead. Parents traditionally leave a light burning all night in the room with the baby so that she makes no mistakes, sometimes supplying a pen and inkpot. Elsewhere in Nepāl, more elaborate rituals are often conducted for this occasion, but these are absent in the villages of Jājarkoṭ (though some Śāhs of the district center do perform a fairly elaborate ceremony). Śiva Bahādur incorporated a reference to this practice into his mustard seeds recital: see note š683.
