khalo The payment in grain that a patron gives to blacksmiths and other craftsmen for a year's work. This is usually given twice a year, after the winter and summer harvests. The current rate (1990's), which hasn't changed significantly for at least the past twenty years, is nine pāthī (72 mānā) from each landholder to each crafts-person.
