Note 442:

arnī Snack food. However, as Sharma [1971:52] observes for Matawālī Chetris, after the initial negotiations of a wedding, "presents are repeated by the groom, this time of a much larger scale, and the girl is thus strongly secured. This act is called the arni khvaunu."Another feature of local weddings is the presentation of a ganel poko (Devkoṭā V.S. 2027:17). This is a small flat basket filled with cakes, including lāḍu, arsā, and phīnī, presented by the groom's family to the girls who accompany the bride when it is time for her to leave her parents' house. Hence the general sense of this passage indicates that Jumrātam treated his sister-in-law as a bride.
