Note 419:

The number of inquiries, and their order, varies from version to version. Here, in Karṇa Vīr's text, the sisters ask only Raspberry, Buffalo, Cow, and Sheep. The longest list was provided by Lakṣmaṇ Kāmī and Pratap Sārkī as they recited together, which included Pine, Mulberry, Fern, Horse, Cow, Buffalo, Banana, Bamboo, Sheep, and Goat.A representative sample of their version goes:

केरा आमै, हाम्रो हान्या मृग देखेथ्यौ कि, भनिन्।
"Mother Banana, have you seen our stricken deer or not?" they said.

"Who will sway back and forth for me, that I should see anything?

तिम्रा हान्या मृग देखिन, भन्न लागिन्।
