rānīsāgar "Pure Ocean," or "pure burial grounds." Locally, any wide expanse of flat land may be referred to as an "ocean." (In I. 26, there is even mentioned the culosāgar, "the hearth space ocean.") In this context, a riverside floodplain used as a burial ground is meant. (Burial as opposed to cremation is a relatively common way to dispose of corpses among the low castes of Jājarkoṭ, even for adults.)
