Note 191:

Apparently, not every shaman had a text for taking hold of the drumstick, but Karṇa Vīr was very proud of his silver-tipped drumstick, and would recite this as he lifted it out of the equipment box. (III.4š4 is very similar.) The text itself chases away witches, a wide-ranging collection of them in various media and guises:jarenī, those who live in water (but see next note);kākhenī, those who live in the air (but see note š709);nāgenī, female serpent witches;uṭhe ḍaṅkīnī, arisen dead witches;śāṅkīnī, (usually in compounds with ḍaṅkīnī) spirits of dead witches.
