At the conclusion of every public recital (and often at intervals throughout a performance), a shaman recites one or more texts over his client(s). He may blow these texts directly onto the afflicted person, onto mustard seeds then scattered on and around the patient, or onto water then splashed onto or swallowed by those being treated. Although the three mantars that follow are specifically against headaches, Gumān identified them as appropriate to use at the conclusion of this event. The first transfers the pain in the head down into progressively less critical parts of the body, and finally out of it entirely. A step-by-step transference is typical for treating astrological problems, but transferring problems from central parts of the body to its periphery is more appropriate when treating the physical aches and pains that result from witchcraft. A more typical transference moves the astrological threats that hover near their victims to more distant places, as in Karṇa Vīr's text, I.20, below.
